2022 Parents and Grandparents program Immigration Lottery

The IRCC has stated that it has completed the distribution of about 23,100 invitations to apply to sponsors in the Parents and Grandparents Program for 2022.

The 2022 Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) lottery is now closed.

Canada’s Parents and Grandparents Program aims to assist Canadian sponsors in reuniting with their loved ones, allowing these parents and grandparents to earn Canadian permanent residence status and enjoy privileges such as access to universal healthcare and a path to citizenship in this nation.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced on its website that it has completed the distribution of 23,100 invitations to apply to sponsors in the 2022 PGP pool after performing its lottery between October 12 and October 20.

In a similar fashion to the 2021 PGP, IRCC chose not to open a new round of sponsorship bids this year. Instead, it was decided to grant ITAs for the 2022 PGP to more of the potential Canadian sponsors who had submitted an expression of interest on IRCC’s website in the Fall of 2020.

Before submitting an application, any potential sponsor who got an invitation during the most recent PGP season should validate their programme eligibility once more. PGP sponsorship applicants have until December 24, 2022, from the date an ITA is obtained, to submit a completed application.

PGP lottery invitations continue to be among the most desired ITAs in the whole Canadian immigration system. The number of application seats available continues to greatly outnumber the number of Canadians interested in sponsoring their parents and grandparents to come to Canada. Indeed, in terms of the size of the sponsor pool from which IRCC distributed ITAs this year, IRCC disclosed that it received over 200,000 requests for sponsorship forms in October/November 2020.

However, in the 2022 Parents and Grandparents Program cycle, Canada intends to continue cutting into the pool of the 155,000 remaining interested sponsors by receiving and processing 15,000 completed Parents and Grandparents Program applications from the 23,100 ITAs distributed.
